A few brief, important questions
answered....
What is a Unipsycho?
Unipsychos are a team of unicycle enthusiasts who are generally interested in
the slightly lesser known side of our sport: off-road, street, and trials
unicycling. Our goals are:
1.)To break the strong stereotype of unicycling as a circus art.
2.) To create a following of people interested in unicycling as an "aggressive"
type sport.
3.) To have as much fun as possible on one wheel and....
4.)To promote off-road unicycling in any way possible.
What is off-road/trials/and street
unicycling?
There are four different branches or types of unicycling growing off of the
original road unicycling practice. The three that we are generally involved in
are trials, off-road, and street.

Trials unicycling
(above) origins lie with Dan Heatons group, Syko Productions and their premiere
extreme unicycling video Universe. Trials unicyclings roots are in stunt
bicycling (also called trials biking) and is the art of negotiating complicated
courses. For example, a trials unicyclist might see a group of rocks or stairs
and attempt to hop from one to another. The core skill for trials unicycling is
hopping.

Off-road unicycling
(above) (better known as MUni or Mountain Unicycling) is the father of extreme
unicycling. Started in the late 1980's and organized by such names as David
Poznanter and John Foss off road unicycling needs no real description. It is
what it is called. Simply the navigation of mountainous terrain on one wheel.
Mountain unicycling has no real core skill although many skills are necessary to
master it. The best method for starting to ride mountains on one wheel? Learn to
ride... and then climb a mountain.
Street
unicycling (above) is the newest form of extreme
unicycling and is usually considered the most aggressive. Street riders ride
quickly and skillfully through an urban playground and use a variety of stunts,
skills, and tricks in their environment. The difference between a trials
unicyclist and a street unicyclist is primarily in the way that stunts are
performed. Trials unicyclists tend to avoid flashy stunts and get the job done
efficiently, while a street unicyclist will do 180's and 360's off of pretty
much any drop he encounters.

And finally....
Freestyle unicycling (above)
is the fourth subtype. It is similar to flatland biking and has been compared to
ice skating or dancing. It is done almost entirely on flat ground and is
probably the hardest type to learn and master. Freestyle is the art of doing a
variety of interesting stunts with and on any unicycle.
How do I get involved?
First, if you are a resident of Texas...... PLEASE contact us! We would love to
get together with you and either, teach you if you are inexperienced or ride
with you if you are. Our webmasters e-mail address is
info@unipsychos.com.
We would love to hear from you. Second. Go out and buy a unicycle.
Where do I get a unicycle? Which unicycle
should I buy?
There is, as of now, only one reputable unicycle distributor on the web and that
is
unicycle.com. They have been around since the sport truly began and
have a WIDE range of unicycles in stock. Which unicycle you purchase depends
entirely on what kind of unicycling you want to get in to and what kind of money
you have. Think of it this way... At Wal-mart you can buy a bike for 100
dollars. That will be a cheap bike and will last you a year or so. Take the
price of the bike and cut it in half (no pun intended) and you will have the
approximate cost/quality of the unicycle you purchase. Unicycles price varies
from 60 dollars to 1600 dollars. The unicycle our website recommends a beginner
is the Nimbus 20 inch Trials Unicycle. It is the best value for what you get and
will last you a long time.
